Scope Miami Dec 5-10 2023
December 5 -10, 2023
801 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach FL 33139
Foreign Territory is delighted to engage in the 22nd edition of the 2023 Scope Art Show, showcasing a compelling presentation of contemporary pieces crafted by Lithuanian artists Arturo Karoso and Martynas Gediminas.
The creative endeavors of these two colleagues, both deeply committed to their craft and cultivating their artistic visions within the same domain, not only command attention but also elicit a profound sense of wonder and admiration.
They seamlessly fuse the realms of painting and sculpture, giving rise to what can be envisioned as three-dimensional paintings or sculptures characterized by a unique artistic synthesis. While the term may evoke a playful manipulation of language, it accurately mirrors what we, as observers, experience. The mystery and play inherent in the realm of meaning serve as unifying elements.
Within the cascade of forms and colors, a plethora of associations emerges. Elements like hearts, palettes, or boomerangs may be discerned, yet the artwork transcends a mere conveyance of meaning, extending beyond a simple symbolic code.
These works present seemingly familiar forms, yet beneath the veneer of shapes and colors lies an elusive realm, initially imperceptible. It's as if this field is encrypted and veiled, not immediately apparent but intriguingly inviting further exploration into its conceptual code. The analogy to ancient palimpsests comes to mind, where one layer of 'writing' or 'painting' conceals another—a much older and more enigmatic layer.
The three-dimensional shapes, the pictorial essence of the artworks, their masterful expressiveness, rhythmic elements, and a delightful sense of play all contribute to their visual appeal, engaging the viewer with their captivating narratives.
This artistic expression is multi-layered, presenting itself with an economy of forms. Simultaneously, it reveals a richness of meaning, embodying a touch of oxymoronic complexity.
